Pesky Squirrels

Squirrels invade The Colony!!!!

I was mowing the yard recently and noticed a large patch (12" long x 8" wide) on the tree that had been scratched through the bark and down to the delicate green of the tree trunk.

I had been noticing alot of small branches laying on the ground lately. It seems our resident squirrel had been sharpening his teeth on our pear tree branches.

One side of the tree was definately suffering from the constant chewing of the branches, Doug was afraid the tree would be permanently damaged.

He covered the area with tar paper and wrapped some bait around the tree.

Squirrels must not like the smell of the bait or the smell of the tar paper as it had stopped chewing on other parts of the tree.

Until..one day we were walking through the yard and there it was scratching at the bark of the tree

Doug went to get his pellet-gun while I stood watch.

One shot wounded it, the second shot made it fall from the tree and the third shot killed him.

Jackie found her squirrel "beanie baby" in her room before leaving for college and we couldn't resist torturing Doug.

I made a sign for the squirrel and we placed it in the bathroom (because we knew he would eventually see it there).

We sat back and waited for it......

About 20 minutes after coming home from work, we heard this loud booming voice "OH, MY GOD!"

Jackie and I bust out laughing

....poor squirrel!
