Breaking Records

The temperature today was 103 degrees! That makes the 12th day in a row with temperatures at or above 100 degrees. And for the year we now have 19 days with temperatures in the triple digits. In an average year we only see 16.

Overnight low temperatures are not expected to cool below 80 degrees, and heat index values are expected to meet or exceed 105 degrees for most North Texas counties this week.

The Dallas/North Texas area is experiencing the 2nd hottest summer on record; 1980 holds the record for the hottest summer. The weather records go back 113 years.

We have not had any measurable rain in the past 49 of 50 days. Lots of fires around (near highways, railroads and peoples yards). Our sprinklers run every other day for 8 minutes so hopefuly that is enough to keep the yard from burning up.

FYI - I'm working on an experiment:
I've been recording the temperature inside the attic for the past few days and will continue through Tuesday, when we are scheduled to get our new roof. At that time, the roofing contractor will be installing a different venting system so I want to see if our attic space will be cooler as a result of that change. More on that at a later date!
