Tuesday, Sept 28th - Cabinet staining all day.
The workers started at 7:50am and did not finish until 7:00 pm.
They put up plastic at the kitchen wall

They covered everything in the living room
(new furniture & new tv ~ just in case)

Plastic ~ Plastic ~ Everywhere

Plastic even outside on the patio and covered about
half of the pool.
Step 1: The cabinets were conditioned on Monday to help with getting the maple cabinets a darker color.
Step 2: Apply one coat of DuraSeal Coffee Brown stain.
Step 3: Apply two coats of DuraSeal Coffee Brown Finishing Stain
Step 4: Wood putty nail holes / Sand doors
Step 5: Lacquer finish

Finished product.
Wednesday morning they will come to remove the plastic and touch up door & drawer fronts as needed.
We are off to TGI Fridays for a dinner out (and to get away from the smell)

I've never heard of anyone waiting to stain cabinets after they've been installed. Besides not having the color picked out in time, why didn't they stain them before they installed them?
Doug & I were both "dumbfounded" by this decision as well. DFW Improveds protocol is to stain on site. The cabinet maker is not set up to stain at his facility. And the stain people on work on site. Lots and lots of taping and covering everything. We are having the same issue with getting the ceiling painted. The ceiling was to be painted after the can lighting was installed and ceiling drywall repairs were made. It would have been far easier to paint the ceiling without cabinets installed. Now the cabinets are installed and with them being much higher, there is not a lot of room to paint the ceiling above them.
Stay tuned for more on that saga. So the stain workers were back today to touch up some spots that were missed. It's coming together~but the order seems a little dysfunctional.
why did they have to put plastic outside?? the stain wouldn't get outside, would it??
Yes, they had the window and door open and the fumes/stain overspray had to have a place to go. Luckily it's been nice enough to leave the windows open and air out the place.
Cabinet stain smell is history, today's smell is BONDO - used to attach the granite.
