Jackie joined us for breakfast and we made plans for the day.
We would drive to the top of Mt. Haleakalā, also known as the East Maui volcano.Early Hawaiians applied the name Haleakalā ("house of the sun") to the general mountain. The tallest peak of Haleakalā, is at 10,023 feet. Surrounding and including the crater is Haleakalā National Park, a 30,183-acre park, of which 24,719 acres are wilderness.

During the drive up Mt. Haleakala. We drove under the clouds, in the clouds and above the clouds. The photo below is taken when we were above the clouds looking down on some of the road we had traveled. You can see the ocean in the distance. We were about half way to the top!
In the afternoon, we drove to the Tedeschi Winery in Ulupalakua Ranch.
King's Cottage - Tasting Room
It was a "quick" 15 minute taste test of 4 different wines:Maui Splash! - Light and fruity, this pineapple and passion fruit wine is our biggest seller. Sweet like a dessert wine, but with good acidity and a clean finish.
Maui Blanc - A soft, semi-dry wine made from the juice of Maui grown pineapples. Its pineapple flavor is subtle with a lingering finish. This wine can be served for all occasions and is a great compliment to Pacific Rim cuisine.
Ulupalakua Red - A creamy and smooth, accentuated with the robust flavors of dark berries, black currants and hints of black pepper. This superb structure provides an abundance of complexities that deepen with each anticipated taste. Very dry!!!
The last one was a new wine, I didn't get the info for...but it was also very, very dry!! Not to my liking, anyways!
On the way back to the hotel we stopped and shopped for some hamburger meat & fixings. Doug & Ken grilled the burgers and all 11 of us enjoyed a fun evening of sharing what we had done for that particular day in Maui.
